Everyone is different. So we will not show the same symptoms of skin aging at the same time. Much depends on a person’s lifestyle and activities.

In the mid to late 20s

During this stage of the person’s life, his/her skin is usually still in a pretty good condition. Do watch out for some of the following skin aging signs:

  • Blotchy skin
  • Dry skin
  • Rough skin
  • Darkened skin
  • Dull-looking skin
  • Skin tone is uneven

In the late 20s or in the 30s

There is a possibility that the skin will show more symptoms of aging. Some of these signs could include:

  • Larger pores
  • Loose skin
  • Fine lines and wrinkles

In the 40s

Skin aging signs become more apparent and pronounced

  • Frown lines appear on the forehead
  • Deeper expression lines

  • Skin folds
  • Skin is more dry and rough
  • Age spots

KNOW THE CAUSES OF THE SKIN AGING

There are different factors that contribute to skin aging.

Genetic factors contribute to 10% of the skin aging process. The intrinsic factors are due to biological aging that results in decreased production of collagen, reduction in sebum production, and slower skin turnover.

Extrinsic factors that are photoaging contribute to 90% of skin aging. Photoaging is sun-induced. It is caused by sun damage and is actually largely preventable. The damage done to the skin through extensive exposure to the sun is accumulated through the years, a little at a time. It is really very subtle and not noticeable immediately. Often a person is not even aware that he is overexposed to the sun. Nor is he aware of how much damage he has already accumulated until it is too late. There is obviously something that we can do to defy skin aging.

START TO PROTECT YOUR SKIN NOW! IT IS NEVER TOO EARLY!

Skin aging starts the moment you are born! Since sun damage is the key cause of aging, it is important to start protecting yourself from the sun’s burning rays. Before you go out, always apply a good sunscreen lotion. Do this for your whole family before you go outdoors. It pays to be cautious. After all, prevention is always better than cure!

If you do love sun tanning or are an outdoors person, you need to select a good sun cream with an SPF of at least 30 if you want to defy skin aging.

SMOKING IS BAD FOR YOU! STUB IT OUT!

Cigarette smoking is obviously detrimental to your health. However, it has detrimental effects on your skin too. Smoking reduces the amount of blood flowing to the skin. This will cause the skin to look sallow and become really dry. Smoking also encourages the formation of wrinkles and fine lines, in particular in the area around the mouth. This is because smokers like to pucker their mouths and squint their eyes to avoid the smoke. Squinting can lead to crow’s feet. If you want to defy skin aging, stub out that cigarette!
