Easy Steps to Make Homemade Facial Scrubs

Homemade Facial Scrubs

Whether you know it or not, everyone needs to use a facial scrub. Just rinsing off in the shower does not cleanse your pores like they need to be cleaned. Facial scrubs, however, can become a little expensive. Instead of purchasing store-bought scrubs, why not make your own? By doing this, you will be aware of all of the ingredients that go into a soap that will clean your face.

You will need

Glycerine: this can be found at wholesale soap outlets. I find mine for around $3 a pound, which is about the best price you can find.

The grainy item for your scrub:

Oatmeal, Wheat Germ or Sea Salts work just as well. The first two you can pick up at your local grocery or health food store. Sea Salts may be a little harder to locate, but you can usually find them fairly easily.

Scent or Color optional

Using either of these compromises the naturalness of your scrub. If, however, you feel you would rather use them, feel free to do so.

  • First, melt glycerine in a double boiler. (You can achieve this by using a large pan filled with water and setting a smaller pan filled with glycerine inside. Once the water begins to boil, your glycerine will melt.)
  • Second, once glycerine is melted, add either oatmeal, wheat germ, or sea salts. (If using scents or coloring, now is when you would add them, as well.)
  • Third, mix together thoroughly and do not allow them to sit for any time at all.
  • Four, pour into molds and allow to cool.
  • Fifth, once cool, pop from molds and wrap in clear plastic or store in a Ziploc bag. (You can use shrink wrap specifically made for homemade soap, but I recommend using plain syrane wrap. It works just as well and is less expensive.)
  • Sixth, store in a cool, dry place. Do not store in an overly cool, warm, or moist place. If you do, your soap will sweat and beads will form inside and outside of your soap.

These make wonderful facial scrubs and you can rest easy knowing exactly what will be used to cleanse your face.
